Get Started
Plamojet is built to make creation more accessible. As part of that mission, we currently offer authorized Winsons marker airbrush systems to help model builders, miniature painters, 3D print hobbyists, and creative makers start spraying with less setup and less cleanup.
This guide will help you understand how to use the Winsons 2.1 Marker Airbrush System, what it is best for, and how to get better results from your first spray session.
1. What This System Is For
The Winsons 2.1 Marker Airbrush System is designed for quick, marker-based spray work. It is a useful companion tool for:
- Model kits and Gunpla
- Miniatures and terrain
- 3D printed parts
- Stencil work
- Soft gradients and shading
- Weathering and touch-ups
- Creative hobby projects
It helps you get an airbrush-style effect without setting up a traditional compressor, hose, paint cup, thinner, and full cleanup routine.
It is not intended to fully replace a traditional professional airbrush for every use case, especially very fine detail work or advanced paint-mixing workflows.
2. What Makes the 2.1 Version Different
The Winsons 2.1 system is designed for users who want smoother control, stronger cordless airflow, and a more adjustable marker holder than entry-level marker airbrush systems.
Key features include:
- Cordless marker airbrush operation
- Type-C charging
- Built-in rechargeable battery
- Interchangeable multi-slot marker holder
- Support for compatible marker shapes
- Quick color switching by changing markers
- Less cleanup between color changes
For best results, we recommend using the official compatible Winsons alcohol-based markers listed on the product page.
3. Before You Start
Before your first spray session:
-
Charge the air pump
Fully charge the cordless pump before first use. -
Use compatible markers
The current Winsons marker airbrush system is designed for compatible alcohol-based ink markers. We recommend using official compatible Winsons markers for the best performance. -
Prepare your surface
Make sure your model part, miniature, stencil surface, or 3D printed part is clean and dry. For plastic or PLA surfaces, primer can help improve adhesion and durability. -
Work in a ventilated area
Always use the system in a well-ventilated space. We recommend wearing a mask when spraying, especially during longer sessions. -
Test before spraying your final project
Test spray on paper, cardboard, or a spare part first. This helps you check color strength, spray distance, and marker position.
4. How to Use It
-
Step 1: Insert the Marker
Place a compatible marker into the holder and secure it in position.
The marker tip should be close enough for airflow to pick up the ink, but not pressed too tightly against the spray point. If the spray looks weak or uneven, adjust the marker position slightly and test again. -
Step 2: Press to Start
Press the button to activate the built-in electric pump. The system uses cordless airflow, so no
external compressor or hose is required.
Start with short test sprays to understand the spray distance and coverage. -
Step 3: Spray
Move the airbrush smoothly across the surface. For softer gradients, keep your hand moving and build
color gradually in light layers.
For stronger coverage, spray slightly closer or apply multiple light passes. Avoid staying in one spot for too long, as this may cause uneven color buildup.
5. Tips for Better Results
- Start with light layers instead of heavy coverage.
- Keep the airbrush moving for smoother gradients.
- Test each color before using it on your final project.
- Adjust the marker tip position if the spray is uneven.
- Use primer on plastic, resin, or PLA surfaces for better adhesion.
- Let the ink dry before layering other hobby paints.
- Apply a clear coat if you want better durability on non-porous surfaces.
6. Changing Colors
One of the main advantages of a marker-based airbrush workflow is quick color switching.
To change colors:
- Stop spraying.
- Remove the current marker.
- Insert another compatible marker.
- Test spray briefly.
- Continue working.
Unlike traditional airbrushing, you do not need to clean a paint cup between every color change.
7. Cleaning and Storage
The marker-based system reduces cleanup, but basic care is still important.
After use:
- Remove the marker from the holder.
- Cap the marker tightly to prevent drying.
- Wipe any ink residue from the holder or spray area.
- Store the airbrush system in a clean, dry place.
- Charge the pump when needed.
Do not rinse, soak, or submerge the electric pump. Avoid letting ink, water, or cleaning liquid enter the motor or charging port.
8. Common First-Use Questions
Why is the spray weak or uneven?
Check whether the marker is inserted correctly. Marker tip position can affect ink flow. Make sure the marker is not dried out and that the pump is charged.
Can I use paint markers?
No. The current Winsons marker airbrush system is designed for alcohol-based ink markers only. Paint markers and other marker types may not spray properly and are not recommended.
Can I use liquid chrome markers?
No. The current Winsons marker airbrush system is not compatible with liquid chrome markers or mirror chrome paint markers. For best results, use official compatible alcohol-based ink markers.
Can I use it on 3D prints or PLA?
Yes. It can be used on 3D prints and PLA surfaces. For better adhesion and longer-lasting results, clean the surface first and apply primer before coloring.
Is it good for fine detail work?
It is better suited for gradients, shading, blending, base coats, stencil work, and broader color effects. It is not recommended for very fine detail lines.
Do I still need ventilation?
Yes. We recommend using the system in a well-ventilated area and wearing a mask when spraying.
9. Best Projects to Try First
If this is your first time using the Winsons 2.1 Marker Airbrush System, start with simple projects such as:
- Gradient practice on paper or cardboard
- Shading on spare model parts
- Stencil patterns
- Light weathering effects
- Base color on small 3D printed parts
- Soft color transitions on miniatures or terrain pieces
Start small, test often, and build color slowly.
10. Final Tip
The Winsons 2.1 Marker Airbrush System is offered through Plamojet as a faster, lower-hassle way to start spray-based color work.
Use it as a practical companion tool for model kits, miniatures, 3D prints, stencils, gradients, and creative projects.
Less setup. Less cleanup. More time creating.
